On the Line. On the Record. — A 765 kV Town Hall (Arlington)

A public conversation about the proposed 765 kV transmission projects and their potential impact on southern Wisconsin — sponsored by the Coalition Against MariBell 765, with No 765 Line, Inc. among the speakers.

Background. Two separate 765 kV projects are proposed for this part of the state. MariBell is a 139-mile line from Marion, Minnesota to Bell Center, Wisconsin, developed by Dairyland Power Cooperative and GridLiance Heartland; its developers expect to apply to the Wisconsin Public Service Commission for a permit in fall 2026. BECI is a roughly 190-mile line from Crawford County to the Illinois state line, developed by Midcontinent Grid Solutions, with a permit application expected in early 2027 — and Columbia County, where this event takes place, is inside the nine-county study area BECI’s developer has published. Comments on BECI’s study segments are due to the developer by September 7, one week after this event; see our comment guide.
