Town of Fairfield special meeting: a response to BECI on the agenda (Sauk County)

September 1 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

A response to the BECI project is on the agenda. The Town Board of the Town of Fairfield, in Sauk County, has called a special meeting for Tuesday, September 1 at 7:00 pm. Item 7 on the posted notice is “Discussion and possible action on a response to the BECI 765 kV Transmission Line Project.” It is the only substantive item on the agenda.

If you want to speak. The agenda sets aside a public input period near the start of the meeting, with three minutes for any resident who wishes to speak. The meeting is at the Fairfield Town Hall, E12891 County Road U, Baraboo.

Background. BECI is a proposed 765 kV transmission line of roughly 190 miles running from Crawford County east across southern Wisconsin to the Illinois state line, developed by Midcontinent Grid Solutions, a joint venture of Transource Energy and BHE Transmission. Sauk County is one of the nine counties inside the study area the developer has published; no route has been chosen and no application has been filed. The developer has said it expects to apply to the Wisconsin Public Service Commission for a permit in early 2027, and comments on its 78 study segments are open until September 7, 2026 — see our comment guide and our Sauk County page.

Date, time, location and agenda item as posted on the Town of Fairfield’s public meeting notice dated August 27, 2026 (checked August 31). This is the town’s meeting, not a No 765 Line event; confirm details on the town’s site before attending.
