Town of Excelsior special meeting: a resolution opposing BECI on the agenda (Sauk County)
A resolution opposing BECI is on the agenda. The Town Board of the Town of Excelsior, in Sauk County, has called a special meeting for Wednesday, September 2 at 6:30 pm. Item 3 on the posted notice is “Resolution Opposing the Bell Center-Columbia-Sugar Creek-Illinois/Wisconsin State Line (BECI) 765 kV Transmission Line Project.” It is the only substantive item on a short, four-item agenda. The meeting is at the Excelsior Town Hall, 100 E. Broadway St., Rock Springs.
Background. BECI is a proposed 765 kV transmission line of roughly 190 miles running from Crawford County east across southern Wisconsin to the Illinois state line, developed by Midcontinent Grid Solutions, a joint venture of Transource Energy and BHE Transmission. Sauk County is one of the nine counties inside the study area the developer has published; no route has been chosen and no application has been filed. The developer has said it expects to apply to the Wisconsin Public Service Commission for a permit in early 2027, and comments on its 78 study segments are open until September 7, 2026 — see our comment guide.
